The co-educational King’s School in Nottingham Road provides a unique primary school education in the green rolling hills of the KwaZulu Natal midlands. Situated in Nottingham Road for the past 93 years the school has been a bastion of liberal ethics and environmental awareness. The original farmhouse has expanded over the years into delightful classrooms with wooden floors and working fireplaces for those chilly winter days. A small school with under 100 pupils King’s provides daily, weekly and full boarding facilities. Many young boarding scholars come from the Free State and their parent’s lift-share to assist each other. Extensive grounds include a cricket pitch, rugby and soccer field and Olympic size swimming pools. The grounds are scattered with shady trees, indigenous shrubs and flowers creating a superb natural learning playground for children. Treehouses, lessons outdoors on fine days, animals such as horses, pigs and chickens, food gardens and wild areas help create empathic, practical and curious children. The annual Shakespeare production is a highlight for the King’s current and past pupils as well as parents and music is also taught at the school.
